Grand Lodge

The Grand Lodge of Ireland is accepted to be the second oldest Grand Lodge in the World. Regular Freemasonry traces its roots to one of the three Home Grand Lodges, the Grand Lodge of Ireland, the United Grand Lodge of England and the Grand Lodge of Scotland. Although the Grand Lodge must have been in existence from before, the Grand Lodge of Ireland celebrates its foundation year as 1725, the year it installed its new Grand Master, the 1st Earl of Rosse.

The current Grand Lodge is actually the union of two Grand Lodges: The Grand Lodge of Ireland and the Grand Lodge of Munster. Lord Kingston of Mitchelstown was elected Grand Master of Munster while he was at the same time Grand Master of Ireland. His acceptance of both offices served to fused both Grand Lodges in 1733.

Lord Kingston had the unique distinction of being elected and served as Grand Master in three distinct Grand Lodges, as he was also elected in 1728 as Grand Master of England.

Freemasons' Hall, Molesworth Street, Dublin, is the headquarters of Irish Freemasonry. This building was erected in 1865 and now includes a Museum, which displays documents, artefacts and regalia providing an insight into Irish Freemasonry. Conducted tours of Freemasons' Hall and Museum are given each year during the summer months, when the Hall is open to the public.

The Grand Lodge of Freemasons of Ireland is the governing body, within the island of Ireland but it also has athority for many Lodges all over the world.  The Provincial Grand Lodge of Jamaica and the Bahamas operate under authority from the Grand Lodge of Ireland. You Can Still Help Haiti

On Tuesday, 12 January 2010, Haiti was struck with a catastrophic  magnitude 7.0 Mw earthquake. In the next twelve days, at least 52 aftershocks  measuring 4.5 or greater had been recorded.

An estimated three million people were affected by the quake.  Of these, reports suggest that 230,000 people had died, 300,000 had been injured and 1,000,000 made homeless.  In addition, an estimated 250,000 residences and 30,000 commercial buildings collapsed or were severely damaged.
